Why do I look lighter in some light and darker in some light? Black Skinned Girl?

I've always wondered this. I'm a brown color african american girl. In my bathroom light I look about 3 shades lighter than in the light at school. But I went to the movies today, and I looked 2 shades lighter then when I do in school. So, my question is, why do I look lighter and darker in different kinds of light?

Different lighting will either wash you out or brighten you. If it washes you out, (usually bathroom lighting), it is going to make you look paler. If it brightens you (sunlight through a car window, etc) it will make you look darker. I remember when i was really pale over the winter, i would be sitting inside thinking how disguisting i looked. Then i would get in the sunlight and say, oh well i'm not that pale! When i really was. It stinks.. i know, but i'm not exactly sure why it does that. Lol!
