Should I paint my car's roof white?
Since white reflects heat, and I my roof looks crappy anyway, I'm wondering if I would get any comfort improvement during the summer if I painted it white. I'm not a big fan of air conditioning.
My cars a huge Crown Vic retired police car, so I'm not too concerned about the environment, I just prefer to drive around with the windows wide open rather than having artificial cold air blowing on me, and if a white roof would help reduce cabin temperature, I'm all for it.

yes! it worked for me in an older chevrolet conversion van. it's not a dramatic difference but it is a difference

Actually, I've heard that little things like having a white car do help. Anything high albedo -- the efficiency that color reflects solar radiation back into space -- helps. But if you're trying to find a replacement for air conditioning, it's a no-go, sorry. But! If you are altruistic and would like to help the overall problem with CLIMATE CHANGE, then it is greatly encouraged.
In another sense, if your roof always looks bad anyways, a coat of paint might do it wonders!

No, the white roof wouldn't. It would reduce the temperature of the roof panel, but that wouldn't affect in-cabin temperatures.
A better way to lower temperatures would be to tint windows 20% so your car starts off cool after you've parked it in the open.
