AC not cooling ~ guage stats included ~?
I have a 2002 Dodge Stratus that isn't cooling. I used the ac manifold guages and the low side is fine but the high side is low.
The compressor kicks on but the system is not cycling. I checked the fuse and it's good and I bypassed the relay and it was working fine.
Low side line after running never got cool. I removed some freon and then added some to see if that would kick on the cycling from the compressor and no go.
I was trying to locate the low pressure relay and jump that as well but I am unable to locate that relay. I followed the low pressure side and there isn't a switch on that line anywhere.
What else would be going on here?
Also I noticed that when running the ac with the car on the gauges don't move at all on the high side. They do move slightly on the low side but being the compressor isn't cycling it just gradually moves up and stays there.
Please do not respond with taking it to a certified mechanic is this doesn't answer my question.
Thanks
Sorry forgot the gauge details. Low side is at 35psi and the high side is at 40 psi on the low side
And NO self promoting your site without a good answer. I WILL report you.
The compressor clutch is engaging when I press the AC button on my car. I did jump the switches on the compressor and the relay and nothing happens..the low side needle never moves....I will note that line for the low / high is not getting cold as it used to.
Can I just get the system vacuumed down, clean the orifice tube and recharge the system?

40 psi on the high side is way low. with the a/c off both pressures should be equal and some where around the ambient temperature. get it vacuumed and recharge it. it sounds like the pressure is too low to operate properly. you said the compressor came on so I kinda doubt it's a compressor problem. if it is low you have a leak somewhere. good luck.

Just a couple of things and I know they won't answer your questions.
R134a refrigerant gets introduce into the system by WEIGHT, that is the actual weight not the Ozs of refrigerant and it doesn't allowed much varience. You taking some out and putting some more is just made the system not work. It could be high pressure, it could be low pressure and gauges aren't going to tell you much.
Used to be able to recharge the R22 freon without even using gauges, it is so forgiving. Not so with R134a.
Best bet is to pull a vacuum until dry, then introduce a new charge by WEIGHT for that system. If that doesn't work you have a compressor problem or something else.

1st, As I tell everyone, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair.
2nd, you actually have some good diagnostics going on but by the readings that you are giving us and from what you are teling us it sounds like your compressor has finally kicked the bucket, technically, your compressor clutch is kicking in but the piston inside the compressor isn't moving like it should. Kinda like your engine...but the compressor has a triangular piston and reed valves. You possibly have a bent or broken valve and bad bearings.
Good luck.

when you jump the compressor and let it run does your high side go up - if not it could be the compressor if it does but your low side doesn't move it could be the orifice-i think dodge has a different orifice need a picture for that
