I need help with where to Sew on this pattern?

http://www.p2designs.com/pdfs/EasyFleeceHat.pdf

This is a simple fleece beanie pattern. I have cut it out properly but now cannot understand where to sew. Could someone please explain in more detail? Thanks!

I'm 100% with Linda on this. Not only that, but she's got you sewing a dart in the top of the hat of some unspecified takeup and length, which is going to make for a very lumpy join at the top.

This is NOT a beginner pattern -- it isn't a good pattern for someone who has sewn for awhile, either, though they could probably botch it through to something that "looked right".

Since you've asked it again, I'll answer it again. Don't overthink this. It's really simple and should work just fine. You have to think a bit more like a designer to see it, though.

Cut your fabric. Ok, you've done that.

Then, lay it out flat so you have all 4 "turrets" showing. Mentally label them A,B C, and D, starting from the left as though you were reading.

Fold turret A onto turret B.

Fold turret D onto turret C.

Now you have only two turrets looking at you, but they are double-layered.

From the top point of turrets A&B, sew out to the left and keep going about an inch after you pass the top of the fold. Angle it so your seam goes all the way out to the very edge. That's what she means by "like a dart."

From the top point of turrets C&D, sew out to the right. Do it the same way as the first one.

Now comes the cootie-catcher part. Pick up the hat and refold it so the two sewn "turret" seams are now in the front and back center.

The two unsewn seams of the turrets are now on the outsides, right and left. Sew them the same way you sewed the others. On the one side where there is no fold, sew that seam all the way to the bottom.

Then follow the rest of her instructions for making the hem and cuff and all.

Source(s): Wow. I just went to try this pattern. I had some scrap fleece here at home, so I made one. It literally took only half an hour, including the measuring and cutting and sewing and all. Great pattern. Came out great.

Ah yes...why free patterns are often worth every penny you pay! I believe it's a narrow 3/8 inch seam allowance -not the full 5/8. I wish the pattern-maker had taken the time to include the seam allowance in the instructions. In the other fleece patterns on the site it says 3/8 inch seam allowance -so I'm guessing that the beanie is also 3/8 inch. Write to the website's owner and point out her omission. She might be able to tell you the required seam allowance and she will know her pattern is missing this one crucial instruction.

Most sewing patterns call for a 5/8 seam. There should be a mark on the throat plate at 5/8"
