Southern Magnolia in Maryland?

I have a southern Magnolia Tree, i live in the MD area. my problem is , it has always dropped leaves basically all year around except Fall ( for the most part ) but now its spring (i has been a mild winter ) and most if not all of the leaves are turning brown.

I do not trim it as much as i should ( or know how to )

so is my tree dying or is this some product effect of the weird weather, also if you have any questions post them i'll add it to the Question part

Update:

basically the leaves are all brown , i had some one come take a look and they say the tree survival rate is slim to none but i want to call some one else for a second opinion ( the company i called specializes in tree removal)

In addition i should have mentioned there is a rock wall around the base that has always been there about 2 ft high with a garden around the tree.

if any of this helps you please let me know

i may have to re-post the question because i do not know if answers already given can be amended.

I am currently going to water with a soaker hose around my grass because we are in a drought (apparently even though we had a lot lf rain) it has not been enough

Huh. It should do fine there.

It's totally normal for it to lose the older leaves (2 to 3 year old leaves). Spring is when you see most changing to yellow, and eventually brown, and dropping off. I hand-groom mine in mid to late spring to get most of that off and out, as it does detract from the look. But if it flowers appropriately in June(ish), and puts out new growth each year, it could be simply normal shedding of older leaves.

If the growing tips are turning brown, that's a horse of a different color, and I'd say something is wrong. Is it in a wet spot? They don't tolerate wet feet, and a soggy place, or one that has standing water for a few days after heavy rains would cause it to not thrive.

I would not prune it, as they're slow growing, and don't respond well to pruning. If you still think something's amiss, then get an arborist out there to assess it. You can't just throw "remedies" at it when you don't know what's wrong, and some things you do might only make things worse.

Hi, I use Bella Rose made by Serious Skin Care sold on HSN. I could never get quite the right shade with Bare Minerals and it's too expensive. You get a lot more product for your money with Bella Rose. Try it and if you don't like it for any reason you have a 30 day money back guarantee with HSN, no questions asked. So you really have nothing to lose. Good luck !

Magnolias drop leaves all year (which is why their nickname is "dirty tree"). They don't need pruning. They should do just fine in Maryland.
