Fact or Fiction? Don't pursue a career/career path unless it is your passion?

The reason why I am asking this question is because I sometimes thinking about wanting to become a preschool teacher because i would like to work with young children however, I'm not sure if teaching is worth pursing only because it is not something that I feel "passionate" about.

I think that that phrase is meant to be like if you like doing something a lot, you should pursue it. If you want to work with young kids thats fine, but if you think that is what you want to do for the rest of your life, well til you retire, than go ahead. It is your choice for the taking. So i would say the phrase is Fiction. For example if a person loves cooking, but doesn't want to be one... Does that make sense. If you want to do something, try it and if not do something else that you are passionate about doing. So overall i would say that the phrase is fictional.

I say it's a fact. If you don't like what you do, then you will burn out and be miserable. I wasn't passionate about nursing, I just wanted to make good money, and never have to worry about hurting for a job. That's not passion, and I hate my job now. I don't make as much money as I thought I would, I don't work in the setting I was trained in, and it's making me very irritable all the time. Ask yourself this and you will get you answer, would you do it for free? Could you wake up and happily do your job just because you love it?

If the answer is no, then don't do it. I'm speaking career wise anyway. If it's just a job to get by then you don't need passion, but don't invest in school to do something for the rest of your life if it is just a passing thought in your mind. Volunteer in the field first before you go to school for it, and put money into it. I wish I just volunteered before I invested time and money into something I don't want to do. You can have many passions in life, and your career should be one of them. I say it's a definite fact.
