Of course you're right. As to the excuse of his daughter's illness, his daughter was born with Trisomy 18, a very serious genetic disorder. Her illness was certainly not a news flash for him. If he truly loved his daughter, whom he KNEW did not have very long to live, he would not have even considered running. He would have wanted to spend every minute he could with this precious child.

My guess is the establishment bankers and elite corporations gave him his orders.
If he had stayed, the odds of a brokered convention were good. Ron Paul has a very good chance of taking a brokered convention. You won't hear that on Mr. TV. Mr. TV is blacking out Ron Paul's success in the delegate race.
OF coure the global bankers and corporate elites don't want Ron Paul anywhere near the W.H. The last thing they want is a President who will return power to the people.

I think the biggest reason is so that he can spend time with his daughter who was not suppose to last a year and is currently three years old. This was her second stint in the hospital this year.
