If a 67 yr, old person on social security gets his check?
on the 3rd, of the month and passes away on the 14 of the same month does the wife have to pay the amt. back to social security? This woman has no income as she does not work and doesnt get any other sort of income.

No. The check received on the third of this month is payment for benefits due last month. Social Security law (not SSI law) states that a person must be alive the entire month for a benefit to be paid which is why March's benefit is paid in April.
She should notify Social Security immediately of the death, however, so that Social Security will be able to pay her the widow's benefit next month on time. As long as they make the death input before the 20th, the next check will be the widow's benefit + the $255 death benefit.

The social security money must be returned to the bank and they will return it to Social Security. I went through this myself. The wife who has no income should have applied for her spousal benefits but now she can apply for death benefits if she is over 60 or has minor children.

No, but when the next check comes, she should write deceased and return to sender , then the SS will send her the death benefit. Also she need to contact SS and file for continuation of survivor's benefits (1/2 of husbands amount).

no, but she can get a check based on his check. she needs to contact s.s. and make an appointment or just go and wait her turn.
