How is herpes simplex (oral) transmitted?

I know you get cold sores on your mouth but is it only contagious when there is an outbreak or all the time?

    It can be transmitted even if the herpes simplex isn't visible, although there may be a lesser chance, as when visible, the part of the body will have direct contact with the herpes simplex.

    Asymptomatic shedding is when your HSV 1 can be spread even when there are no symptoms. So if a person feels a little itchy or something similar to a tingle sensation then it is more than likely able to be spread.
