Are the Los Angeles Lakers underrated?

With all of the alleged turmoil and problems about the Lakers, they are 37-22, in 3rd place. Just because Fisher and Odom are not on the Lakers does not mean they cannot still contend for a championship. They are 4.5 games behind the Spurs, but if there is a second round matchup, LA can beat them on the road. They still have core players from the championship team: Kobe, Pau, Andrew, and Metta. Kobe has really had an MVP season, and if his team had a slightly better record, he would be in the MVP talks. When Bynum and Gasol are on their games, no team can really stop them inside because they can just play volleyball with the rim. Bynum is the most dominant center in the West, and arguably in the league. He just completely overwhelmed the enitre Spurs frontline. Sessions has been a tremendous addition and makes the Lakers a different team. He can penetrate, find the open man, can shoot, and can guard the quicker PGs. Pau Gasol is still a top 5 PF, and Metta World Peace has seemed to really hit his stride since the All-Star break. The much-maligned bench still has good contributors in Barnes, Blake, McRoberts, and Murphy. I think the fact that they beat the Spurs in San Antonio without Kobe sends a message to the West and the league that they are still capable contenders.

No, they just aren't that good this year.

  • They are underrated for being a good team this year. They have 2 dominant 7 footers that can score and rebound. Kobe is having a great year and knows how to finish games. Sessions isn't the best PG but can put up the assists or points. Metta has good and bad games. If he plays like he did against Spurs, then it would be like the Finals against the Celtics in 2009 or 2010 series. Celtics may not make it though.

Dallas beat them 4-0. And that was with Phil coaching (not clown brown) and better bench players.

Unlike say...boston. same coach, healthy big 4 and very good new role players. The Cs might win it all 1 more time.

Dont forget... they been together 5 years. Only 2 times they werent in the nba finals was due to one of the big 4 being injured (kg then rondo) and a terrible bench last year. Now healthy - good bench - playing the best ive seen them play than ever before.

Boston got the know how to win it. LA ... fisher is gone. Phil is gone. Your left w a ball hog who can not fit in with the rest of the guys..

Thunder dont have that problem. Their really good. Their front line is dominant (ibaka n perkins) .....

Its not possible for LA to win

  • No. I think people give them credit as contenders. They don't stand out in the tough Western conference, but they are one of quite a few teams that might go to the finals representing the West.

Just a point about the bench: it isn't a very good bench, but that doesn't matter. Starters are what matters. Bryant, Bynum, and Gasol cannot be dismissed just because the bench isn't strong.

hi Dan, i think of you're somewhat observant and Lamar Odom has unquestionably contributed often to the Laker success this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days- exceptionally with the injuries to Pau and Bynum. it particularly is between the excuses that the Lakers have stored him for thus long. The Lakers have constantly regarded the quantity of expertise Lamar has- yet up till those days he has yet to step up and play at a severe point consistently. He seems to have achieved that this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and rightfully merits compliment for his progression. i think of he's unquestionably significant to the Lakers placed up-season success by using fact Bynum, Gasol, and Ariza might no longer be one hundred% healthy, so he will supply help on the boards- and Lamar may additionally provide them a 2d or third scorer. Lamar has constantly been expected to be the 2d to Kobe and he's failed at that functionality- yet with Bynum's progression and the commerce for Pau- Lamar could be a #3 or #4 selection - which he seems to be excelling at- i do no longer think of there is any jealousy there- unquestionably i think of Lamar enjoys and is now getting popularity by using fact of ways he's enjoying as a #3, #4 selection rather of as a #a million, #2 selection. go Lakers!!! Wow, one good game and Laker fans are hoisting another banner in the Staples Center. The Lakers are, if anything, overrated. This is the same team that got swept by the Mavs last year, except without the sixth man of the year and without the veteran, playoff tested point guard.

No, I think they are rated right where they should be.

Here's the thing about Mike Brown, he's going to stick with the same "Plan A" (just like he did in Cleveland), and/or come up with weird substitutions. (like Ebanks from zero minutes to starter) Their "Plan A" works well during the season, but teams figure out how to stop "Plan A," they're finished.

way underrated. The problem is that they have a decent coach. He is okay, but if the team ignores him, then it doesnt matter, our defense will get killed and team will lose. Last week the coach was totally being ignored, but last night, they seemed to be listening. Lets just hope they keep listening through the playoffs.

I don't see the laker win it this year.

but funny Cus I have them as one of the team

come out of the west (behind Thunders)

but they will be better next year.

they have nearly half new roster, new coaching system

and they still make it to 3rd place in the West.

I like their chances in the next 2 years.
