Is there a group of people close to the Early Christians?
I was thinking about the life of Christ and his disciples. Christ was direct in teaching those early Christians the way for them to go. Some will even use that expression "the way". So, what happened to that way? Shouldn't that have continued even after his death and that of his apostles?
Do you know any other points that Jesus taught and do we see it today? Are all religions that claim Christianity truly following all the standards set out when Christ was on earth?
Here are a few that I can think of...
1) They understood the "model prayer" as mentioned in Matthew 6:9-15. Jesus said to make his Father's name holy, to put it on High. He used God's name Yahweh or in English (Jehovah). The disciples as well freely used the Father's name not giving into superstition as later came into play in NOT using his name. They also knew to pray for his Kingdom (government) that would solve the problems on earth. Realizing that no political endeavor on earth would ever solve all of the problems. They of course, knew to be thankful for what was provided for them each day such as food...also prayed for protection from Satan the "manslayer and father of the lie". They understood how real he was and how easily we can get trapped. They prayed that they would be forgiving others that trespass the same as they wanted forgiveness. Matthew 6:9-15 They freely used the Father's name not giving into superstition as later came into play in NOT using his name.
2) They spoke out against idolatry and other false worship just as Christ spoke out to those hypocritical Scribes and Pharisees. I was thinking of how Jesus Christ acted, even throwing the money changers out of the temple. He spoke against this sort of greed.
3) They were to go forth and make disciples out of all nations (Matthew 28:19, 20) Not just holding up in the temples waiting for others to come to them. They were to be active in teaching from scripture. They knew it was the best way of life and the solution to those neighboring nations that did not know a way out from their problems.
4) They acknowledged and followed this admonition: "I make request, not concerning these only, but also concerning those putting faith in me through their word; in order that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in union with me and I am in union with you, that they also may be in union with us, in order that the world may believe that you sent me forth." (John 17:20, 21) Genuine unity, the worshiped in spirit and truth like it tells us to do John 4:24 They totally understood what it meant to be ONE in PURPOSE, "not one PERSON" for that was not possible.
5) They were united by love. (John 13:34, 35) They understood that Agape love that was to be their "mark" and easily identified that way. They knew that this love would recommend others to the Christ. A love without hypocrisy.
Your additional thoughts... ;)
Another point would be teaching others that the dead will return to life by means of a future resurrection. Acts 24:15 Many religions don't even understand that.

Only one out of the present 48,000 religions claiming to be Christian actually obey all the things Jesus taught while on earth. All the rest insist on promotion of one human government or another by physical, material and participation in all wars. Many even have positions of authority supporting those human governments.
None of that is in any way obedient to the orders of Jesus as Leader.
A possible #6 could be: Proper value system that stresses spiritual values over material ones. Jesus instructed, “Stop storing up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal. Rather, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”—Matthew 6:19, 20.
While the Bible does not teach us to be impractical as far as material wealth goes, it does urge us not to put our hope in such things. (Ecclesiastes 7:12) Rather, we should work to gain spiritual riches by studying the Bible, learning God’s will, and making the doing of that will the first thing in our lives. (Matthew 6:33)

What happened to "the way" was it became filled with apostasy. Instead of sticking to the teachings of the Bible, mankind has corrupted the true nature of Jehovah and created a false trinity. If that wasn't enough, to make it appealing to "heathens", they incorporated pagan ideals with Christian. Since these teachings "tickle" the ears of the people, they felt it was fine being it came from their church. So the trend continues down to this day.
However, there are some who realize these things as not being of the table of God and reject them for the false, unholy actions they are. They have gone back to the true teachings of the Bible and make sure of the more important things. They strive to live by Bible counsel, following the words and laws of Jehovah to the best of their ability. They went back to finding for the deeper things of Jehovah so as to establish a personal relationship with him. Having done those things, they experience blessings beyond compare. They also draw the ire of the world. But that's okay, since we know what prize awaits us for proving faithful not only in little, but great things.

You mentioned # 5 United by love, one point is that was to love your neighbor as yourself and to treat people as you would want to be treated. This attribute is very seldom seen. Yes true Christians show each other love but the population on a whole rejects love of neighbor. We love neighbor and treat as we would want to be treated. Every time we go into the field ministry and preach of the coming New World. We tell strangers and those we don't know at all nor do we know their personality's or what their reaction to us will be.Will their reaction be lovingly accepted? probably slim. .

I guess most religions might claim all of those things-- it doesnt mean its reality though--- There are other clues Jesus left all of those who listen to him---- for 1) Jesus pointed his true followers to his God and Father, Jehovah, the one Jesus told all is the only true God at John 17:1-6--Jesus taught--Keep on seeking first the kingdom and his( Jehovah) righteousness, and all will be added---- 2) Jesus also said you will be hated because you are no part of this world--- that includes--pagan filled and nationalistic holidays of this world, voting and politics of this world, wars of this world--sinful practices of this world--- the only religion that fits the bill are the Jehovah witnesses--the only religion who Jesus is with.

There are many, but they are so few and far between it seems like they no longer exist. But God says there will be faithful all the way to the end. So we would expect some to still be in existence. I personally know a believer whose "church" meet in each other's homes, as it was in the beginning.

Yes,
The Gnostic Essenes were believed to be the earliest Christians.
Even the Dead sea scrolls give some evidence to this.

The Baptists and the Churches of Christ are the closest. These were never part of the Catholic assembly so they are not considered Protestants. Research it and that is what you will find. I did. Thats how I know.
