Hi Garytoo,
Be it D-Link Dir-615 or any other wireless router, the limit of wireless clients that can connect to it is 254. This is because the total number of IP's available in the subnet is 254. Now one of these 254 IP's is being used by the router itself, so there is 253 left.
So, there you are - you have the total number of wireless connections that D-Link 615 support. Just like the D-Link router, all the other router brands will have the same maximum connections possible.
In real life situation, the maximum number of connections is not the 254 limit of IP addresses that a subnet can accept.. The maximum number of connections depends on the bandwidth subscribed for the router. If the bandwidth subscribed from the ISP is only 1MBPS and 4 users simultaneously do heavy video downloading, each eating up 250kbps, the 4 of them will have used up the avaiable bandwidth.
250 kbps x 4 = 1MBPS
Now, consider a 5th user. who is logging in to do also video downloading. What happens now? We would conclude that there would not be bandwidth anymore for him. (In reality, the 5th user can still log in, and the 1MPBS bandwidth will NOW be shared AMONG 5 OF THEM. The effect is SLOWING DOWN OF THE DOWLOAD for all of them.)
So, the limitation is really the bandwidth subscribed from the ISP and what the logged-in users will do with their wireless connections. If the users do ONLY e-mail, chat, surfing or just YAHOO ANSWERS, more users can be accommodated with no noticeable slowing down of internet activity. However, if all the users do movie downloading or similar bandwidth-eating activity, all of them will notice a slowing down of their activity in the internet. Some users could even experience being timed out by the host they are are downloading from.
Get the idea?

I have the same router. I think it all really depends on the DHCP settings. 100 devices (4 can be wired) 96 total wireless devices. You can increase that to a maximum, I'm just not sure how many it could handle. Try setting it to 200, 300 or more and see.

Depends on how many you allowed when you setup your router. Most people setup about 10 under DHCP. The router can handle up to 254 (I think).

^ Either he doesn't know English or he has no idea what you're talking about. Check out DDWRT, you'll need your revision model (C1, D2, E1 etc.) on the bottom of your router.
