How long do meningitis headaches last?

My 19 year old daughter was admitted to the hospital on Sunday for Meningitis which symptoms had started the day before on Saturday afternoon. They couldn't decide it if was bacterial or viral until they did a repeat spinal tap which pointed more to viral. They let her come home the next day on Tuesday. Today is Friday and her headaches are so not much better. It will be one week tomorrow since the headache started. I took her to our family doctor the day after she was discharged and she was given antibiotics (Z-PAC) to take. How long do the headaches normally take before they start to get better?

Update:

I am aware of what z-pac is and I also know that it is an antibiotic to cover possible infections AND my child HAS received all vaccines that the health office offered. I have NEVER not gotten the necessary vaccinations. She is already taking high powered pain med AND Ibuprofen for pain/inflammation. My question did not ask what she should be taking. I asked HOW LONG DO THE HEADACHES NORMALLY LAST hoping I might get some answers from someone who has had this themselves in order to hopefully give her some peace of mind as to how long she can expect to be in pain!!!!!!!!!!

From 1 to 2 weeks. Never had it but just check a few websites and they all say about the same thing.

Also to the other answerer: There are no vaccines for the most common causes of viral meningitis

Contrary to popular belief, neck pain and back pain is what causes headaches, not the other way around. Once you release the muscles in those areas that are tight, your headache will go away. Here are two good exercises to get you going, if you still have some pains let me know there are more for other things. For your neck: place your hand alongside your head and push your thumb in under your ear and place it on the muscle there. Take your fingers and place them on the back of your neck on the muscles there. Press them together and hold a good amount of pressure on them. Then relax, take a deep breath an happening, the muscle going limp under the pressure. Continue to hold until the entire muscle has gone limp. Back: Place your left hand on your left knee. Place your right hand over your left shoulder and with your fingertips find the muscle next to your spine. Press on it and hold. Relax, take a deep breath and exhale and don’t tense up any part of your body. After about 30 seconds there should be a release happening and when it does slowly lower yourself forward onto your right leg or even over it if you can, the more over the better it is. Continue holding for a total of one minute. Then release but rest your body there for one minute longer. Then reverse and do the right side.

Zithromycin (z-pac) will not work towards headaches.

She needs to take acetaminophen or ibuprofen in order to relieve headache tension.

The headaches will cease once most of the viral infection has been eliminated by the body's immune system.

If anything, be thankful its only a headache. I hope you learn your lesson in getting your children vaccinated appropriately.
