Don't forget to add in Insurance, companys love it when kids wont settle for point A to B and want something fast, at least till said person wrecks car and does damage to someone elses car or injures or kills someone and they have to pay up. then they tend to tell all there other friends to never insure you because your a high risk driver, in which case the bus is a lot faster than walking.

Whew that's going to be hard. I hope you know that the bigger the engine the bigger the price. Yesterday, me me and my cuz saw a 1999 4cyl 145hp honda accord for like 7,000 and that had 120,000 miles on it, so yeah. The fastest car you would prolly get for that price is a 2001 mazda Milena, it comes a v6 engine with 211hp and a v6 engine with 170hp. There is also the 2000 ACCURA tl which comes with 225hp and that's around 6,000-7,000. But, i cant think of anything else. Most cars from the early 2000's don't have no more than 215hp. My 2002 toyota camry only has 198 hp and i payed 9,000 for that last year, it had 108,000 miles on it when i bought it. You should kind of take down on the size of then engine and focus more on the reliability. If you do find something real fast for 5,000 and its newer than 2002, i wouldn't be surprised if its in bad shape.

any car can be too fast in any given situation ..and bhp does not allways mean faster ...just look at a lotus ..what does make more sense is less weight and more torque ..an audi TT with 225 bhp will not be able to lose a bmw 320D..if the driver is good ..i have had hundreds of cars ..own a garage ..best car by miles? mk1 golf gti ..110 bhp ...save a bit more and get a boxster or an mx5 ..

£5,000 will get you a 2003 BMW 330d: only 204bhp, but 410Nm of torque, 0-60 in 7 seconds, 150mph, 42mpg average.
