Why do republican vote republican while democrat vote democrat?

Don't people actually research wtf they're voting for? or did they just listen to a guy's speech and just believe everything he said?

Politics is often like religion..........you are what you were taught to be.

You're a "Christian", because you were dragged to church, and baptized, and had your first communion, and you had ZERO say in the matter.

Had you simply been born to Jewish parents, then you would be Jewish, If you were born to Muslim parents, then you would be Muslim,,,,,,,it has nothing to do with a choice you make............if the circumstances around you.

If you are a rich Kid born into a wealthy republican, or democrat family........then clearly you will grow up thinking this is the right path....and your parents are infallible, because, clearly, they are successful.

There is no real reason for you to QUESTION anything. And by the time there IS.......or you are old enough to make up your own mind.........the brainwashing has probably already taken root.

You're out there voting Pub or Dem, because that's what your parents did, and that's what you were taught.

Buttttttttttt.............some people........precious few......learn to think for themselves, and break out of that mold............maybe switch parties.......develop their OWN ideas..........or simply decide their "chosen" party......is just not the party for them, personally.

That's why most pundits say, the elections are decided by the independents. We know pubs will vote pub, and Dems will vote Dem.....so they cancel each other out.

What's truly at stake most of the time, is that slim margin of people who are capable of actually educating themselves to the facts, and making the right choice for the COUNTRY........

not just to see their "Team" win.

I have no doubts Romney is a good man,.........a fine father, an excellent business man,,,,,,,,,

but so is Obama. Where do each want to take the country. ? Who spits out the most BS?

I don't care about the R or the D.........I am judging the PERSON AND their words.

and if those two are my choice. ..........I gotta go with Obama,. Has nothing to do with what PARTY he claims he is or isn't. I see him as the better man......period..

It would disturb the time space continum and the universe would be destroyed.

Not to say it is better this way but people are Democrats or Republicans because they agree to the general stance or platform whatever party they pick. The assumption is that the candidate on that ticket will follow those guidelines. The problem comes up in places like Wisconsin where the Republicans are facing a recall they will probably lose. So what do they do? They get some of their own Republicans to run for office as a Democrat. In a nutshell, it is probably better if they listen to their speeches but then you have the problem where they will promise whatever they think the people in the room wants to hear. That is one of the problems being tossed about on Mitt Romney. z

Dating all the way back to, & including Reagan... The Republicans have selected old southern Democrats, as they're Presidential candidates.... The party's, have actually, traded places... The party of Lincoln, the guy that started the Gay Old Party, the guy that freed the slaves... Is now, the party of Alabama, Governor George Henry Wallace... George's son, George Henry Wallace Jr., now a Koch brother's, Tea Partier, & still.... Just as racist, & radical... As they were, when they were Democrats.... And people wonder why, I'm an Independent....

Liberals are made to believe the government will give them some government money. The only money the government has is what it takes away from people. They will not give you anything. In fact, they will only return about 30% of what they take. YOU LOSE!

Because we have a crappy government that obviously doesn't work except for the wealthy and, if they can keep idiots fighting against each other they can do as they damn please. That is what congress and the two party system has come to a reality show. To hell with the country support party. Guess what belief in a single party only is communism. The two party system sucks. It is time we insist on a multiparty system. You vote for two people from five or so parties. First choice and second choice. If the first choice candidate gets more than 50% he becomes President. If not and everyone's second choice gets more than 50% he/she wins. Term limits should be for consecutive (no more than two terms in a row) not never again. Voting for a party should be taken off the ballot. If you want to vote all of one you do it by each candidate running for office. Dump the Electoral College have the lessor populated states have primaries first in order of size. This gives them a better say like the caller of heads or tails.

So many people are so wrapped up in party they can't see around their elephant or *** .

edit:The two party system is not working. Just look at congress. Abolish congress as we know it. We have a out of date government. Representatives and the way they were seated made sense back in the horse and buggy days. Today we live in the information age. Why do we continue to use these middle men that are no longer needed? The house could easily be replaced by automation. Cities could easily have mayors/ and or drafted citizens from a pool (like jurors) that could propose bills or legislation for public voting by internet. or Any citizen could bring a bill to the floor by electronic voting from a site for that purpose providing it got enough 'thumbs up' or something. Party affiliation would no longer be an issue, neither would special interest, pacts or lobbyist. We need to reinvent government. Our system is very outdated for the times we live in. We need to quit giving others power we should be using. Our system is suppose to be a government of the people. Government should be afraid of the people not the people afraid of their government. We could cut a lot of spending and down size our government and make integrity speak.

Actually, I vote issues, not a party line. I have voted for people from both of those parties, and for independents in the past.

The faction for which they vote defines them.

Most Republicans vote Republican because Republican candidates play on their tendency toward fear and paranoia, they’re very wealthy, or they’re racist, or they just vote the way their parents tell them to vote, or they believe the garbage they hear from Hannity, Limbaugh, Beck, and many Republican politicians.

    I vote Democrat because:

    1. I care about the environment and would prefer that my grandchildren have some clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. Not what the Koch Brothers would leave us to ingest.

    2. I vote for politicians who give a **** about the middle-class and the poor.

    3. I’m big into Civil Rights, so I naturally vote Democrat.

    4. I’m pro-choice.

    5. I actually believe in the Separation of Church & State.

    6. I don’t like lying our way into war and bombing the crap out of other countries all to serve the corporate elite.

    7. I think condoms are a good thing, and believe that abstinence-only education doesn’t work.

    8. I’d like to keep our social safety net in place, and not hand Medicare and Social Security over to Wall Street, as many Republicans want to do.

    9. I believe in Fair Pay for women. Republicans voted against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.

    10. I tend to vote for the people who want to care for the least among us - as Jesus did. Therefore, Republican candidates are out of the question.
