my dog has salmon poisoning?

So my dog is very phycically fit, he is half german shepard and half ausi shepard. and is ten years old. We lost our weiner dog about a week ago due to coyotes. We thought our other dog (jasper) was just depressed and not eating because of it. So we tried to give him treats and a lot of extra attention but he never really ate or did anything he normaly does. A WEEK LATER We then decided to take him to the vet to see if there was a cure to his depression. Come to find out, he has salmon poisoning. He has been dependant on an IV for 3 days now and still wont eat anything we put in front of him. Are his chances of survival slim at this point?

This is all that we have tried:

k9 i/d gastrointestinal health wet food, dry food, treats, meat, peanut butter, heavy antibiotics from our vet. He is now at the vet on an IV for the third time.

Update:

Just to clear something up, this is NOT salmonella poisoning. SALMON poisoning comes from north pacific waters from a small snail most all salmon eat that contain the virus. Many vets and other people that aren't from the Pacific NW or Alaska aren't familiar with this disease and think we are mistaken for salmonella.

Sorry that you are having such a terrible week. :(

I'm not that familiar with salmon poisioning as it is not at all common here. But here's a good article on it: http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/cliented/salmon.aspx It seems that some sort of dewormer is also usually prescribed?

I hope that your dog pulls through. If the dog is in danger of dying, the vet will be honest with you about it.

Sorry about your wiener dog and now for your sick dog.

Salmonella poisoning is tricky, and elderly immuno-compromised dogs have a harder time rebounding.

This may sound trite, but attitude is everything. Think good thoughts. If your dog will get past it, he'll benefit from your good vibes, moreso than from worry or distress.

If he will not survive, he will still do better with your calm, warm, good thoughts.

Moreover, _you _ will fare better with calm strength.

    Peace.
