My husband got a red light camera ticket in Beverly hills in a rental car does he need to pay it?

In most circumstances you would be responsible for paying the ticket if you were the driver at the time of the violation regardless as to whether you were the owner or renter of the car, but this one is unique because the red-light camera program is now defunct. However, the rental company might not be familiar with the current policies for red-light camera tickets, and could insist that the ticket be paid regardless as to whether the city would require payment from them. They don't want to be harassed, even if they're not going to truly be on the hook for that ticket. I'm confused about whether the ticket was forwarded to you from a friend who had rented the car with you, or if the ticket had been issued to someone at the rental agency and he / she sent it to you. If it was a friend then he / she doesn't want to be harassed by the rental agency. The main thing is to cut out the middle people and assume responsibility for the ticket yourself as soon as possible. On the back of the citation it should list the instructions for having it reissued to the driver responsible for the violation. Once you have the ticket properly issued in your husband's name, you can choose not to pay without having to worry about the rental agency or anyone else being impacted.

Someone is going to have to pay, because the rental car company won't just swallow it. They will charge the amount of the fine to the credit card of the person who rented the car.

There has been a lot of controversy with all of this red light camera problems in CA the best thing I can tell you is read the ticket carefully and look online by typing " California red light tickets?" among other things the police are allowing companies to issue fake tickets. Look on the ticket carefully for things like " do not contact the court" for example among other things read all of the stuff online and make an informed decidsion. And WHOEVER was driving has the problem. I dont want to tell you what to do but after reading some of this stuff its beyond belief that law enforcement even allowed this to happen "pathetic" is a word that sums it upl good luck they are suggesting people ignore fake tickets (and hoping they get paid) We each have to do what is right in the case of pathetic crap like this if we as a people stood up by ALL REFUSING TO ACCEPT THIS TOGETHER AND STAND ON OUR RIGHTS WE can shut down the legal system. its already bogged down.

If he doesn't the rental company has the right to tack it onto his credit card - read your rental contract.

Well yea he was the one who did it but wow that's expensive! It should have not been over $50

If he was the driver and he committed the offence then he needs to pay the fine, it will not go away if you ignore it! It's not even open to debate.
