Better career for female....Police Officer or Firefighter?

Hey guys, I'm really torn between two careers that both REALLY interest me. Pay is about the same where I live so that's not an issue. I'm doing all my research and really trying to figure out what I'm most passionate about. Personally I'm leaning towards firefighter but many of my friends say I'd make a great police officer. What I really want to know is which one may be more suitable for a woman. Just want to hear some opinions and why you feel that way. Thank you! =)

Different challenges than most… being a cop or a firefighter are two very important roles but two very different roles at that. I’m sure you’re aware of that if you have been doing your research right. One thing to consider is that professional firefighters have to have medical training. How much training is required depends on the department. For example do they require you to be an EMT-basic or do they require you to be a paramedic. Some fire departments provide Fire and ambulance service so you could serve a dual role. If you choose to become a firefighter/ paramedic you could then go to an academy and become a S.W.A.T medic or be a fire marshal. I’m a firefighter/EMT-B and I’m currently getting my paramedic license so I know more about that side of it so you would have to get someone else to tell you what it’s like being a cop.

I will add this though… people aren’t always happy to see a cop but people are happy to see a firefighter/EMT-P. (99.5% of the time lol)

It appears that you are leaning, more passionate about, toward a firefighter. Therefore do not let friends influence your decision. Both careers are male dominated, are high risk and will present challenges as a female; therefore, move towards where your passion lies.

Go with your gut. If you don't like or have issues using a gun, be a firefighter.
