Because the person calling it such is a mammal.
If fish were intelligent, it would be called the "Age of Fish." Seriously. There are 30,000 species of fish, and only 4000 species of mammal.
If you consider only terrestrial vertebrates, then, hey. Birds have 10,000 species. It's the age of birds.
Sheesh, there are more squamate reptiles (lizards and snakes) at about 8000 than there are mammals. If it's not the age of birds, then it's the age of Squamata.
Bonk your teacher over the head with a logic-encrusted clue bat.
