400 words or more?! Lucky you, my Macbeth essay was thousands!
Guilt caused both Macbeth and Lady Macbeth to hallucinate and go crazy to the point where they became indifferent to each other and to the power they had seized. It basically numbed all their emotions. The turning point was when Macbeth had his best friend killed and started freaking out at the banquet, imagining that Banquo's ghost was shaking his bloody head at him; after that, he became a cold-blooded and impersonal killer, causing deaths for no personal gain at all, like the time he ordered for everyone in Macduff's castle to be murdered. The two partners in crime both hallucinate about blood on their hands, symbolizing their guilt, and frantically try to wash it off but can't. This shows that once you've betrayed your values and conscience this badly, there's no going back, and you're a changed person forever. You could also incorporate the Great Chain of Being (in any Shakespearian play with a tragic hero, the upturned balance is always restored after justice is served in the end) and explain how pathetic fallacy helps reinforce your topic (an example of this is the crazy thunderstorm the night of King Duncan's murder).
Don't forget to always stick to the third person (NEVER say 'I think' or 'in my opinion'!), one tense, and never use contractions! Good luck!

Take notes when you read the play. Do research at library. Make an outline for the essay and then write. You already have quidelines to do the essay. Good luck on your essay.

when you read the play (and watch it - libraries should have copies available on DVD - it is important that you watch it - it will illuminate it for you, it will help you understand the text immensely) think of your topic and how you think it does and doesn't apply to the action of the story.
take notes and research - I second that idea and the wish of good luck - You will do great!
Don't forget to talk with your teacher - that's why they are there :)
