Can I use a USB cable between computers?

I want to transfer data and communicate between two computers side by side; can I use a double ended male usb cable? The operating system on both is windows XP Pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem #2. My new computer has the hard drive designated to H and some of my software assumes the HD is C as is normal, Can I somehow change the hard drive to C without drama.

I am not a bright light bulb with computers can work things out with a little help.

Not a simple cable, no, USB is very much a host-controlled protocol - it is the computer runningthe whole show which expects to be the only computer on the bus. You can use special USB transfer leads which have a bunch of electronics in them but not a simple cable.
