Phantom of the Opera: Christine audition song?
I was thinking of doing "How beautiful are the feet of them" from the Messiah, but I wasn't sure if it wouldn't be fitting. If not, any other suggestions?

Don't do a song from "Phantom", UNLESS you are asked to prepare a song from the musical as Molly did. Check with the original source for audition information--does the theatre have a website? Can you call? Where did you find out about the audition?
It's important that meet what ever the audition requirements are.
Other than that--the suggestion for Gilbert and Sullivan operetta arias (like "Poor Wandering One") is excellent. Avoid actual opera arias because "Phantom" is actually musical theatre and while the singers need what is known in the theatre as a "legit" soprano voice, it really needs to have a much lighter, more pop sound than a real opera singer would use.
You might try "Glitter and Be Gay" from Leonard Bernstein's "Candide". It's very long, so you might have to cut. Make sure you include the runs at the end--especially that high E6. You'll need it. The part of Christine, as well as for the Primadonna, have some excruciately high notes.
"Poor Wandering One" has sections where you can easily insert a really high note or two into a cadenza.
Other songs--if you want to try an actual aria (for audition purposes, find English versions so you can demonstrate you can sing in English in a high pitch and be understood clearly)
"Je veux vivre" from Gounod's "Romeo et Juliette"
"Les Oiseaux dans la charmille" The "Doll Song" from "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" (Tales of Hoffman" by Jacques Offenbach)
However, as far as classical music goes, stick to the lighter operettas. Aside from G&S, there is also Adele's "Laughing Song" from Strauss' "Die Fledermaus".
You can also try songs from the "other Phantom"--Maury Yeston's musical from the same source.
This is a lovely soprano song from "Nightingale" by Charles Strouse (composer of "Annie"). It also has some lower notes as does Christine's music.
The original "Nightingale" was Sarah Brightman before she did "Phantom". Her voice
was still very pure and fresh at this time.

You can find examples of all the songs mentioned on Youtube. Plus sheet music is readily available for all of them--if you are willing to buy the music if necessary.
Source(s): personal experience and knowledge as a classically trained singer (choral, musical theatre, and opera) And no, I've never sung in either "Phantom", though I've sung some of the songs from each of them. - 7 years ago
Try one of Johanna's songs from Sweeny Todd e.g. "Greenfinch and Linnet Bird"
"I Know Things Now" from Into the Woods...
Children Will Listen and Noone Is Alone are also GORGEOUS songs from Into the Woods too.

How about "In my life" from Les Miserables or "Poor wandering one" from Pirates of Penzance?
