how to stop acting shy because people think?

people think i'm really rude, but it's just that i am PAINFULLY shy. like it's hard for me to say hi to someone i know in the street, so i tend to blank them and look away. or if i see someone i know, i will run away and try to make sure they didn't see me. it's hard because i want to make friends and i am pretty, smart, dress well etc but i am really so socially anxious that all those things combined make people think that i'm 'too good' and most people really dislike me. like, i will hurry past and people will roll their eyes. how can i change this??

there's nothing wrong with being shy, if they think you're rude that's their problem for making judgement before getting to know how you actually are - not your problem or something you have to change.

It's insane how much this sounds like me! I totally understand your problem. Try setting a goal for yourself to say "hi" to one person a day, and then slowly increase it. If this doesn't work, I would suggest when you see someone you can't quite make yourself say "hi" to, smile, and MAKE EYE CONTACT. It's hard for me to look people in the eye, so it's probably just as hard for you, but it's important. If you can't make eye contact for too long, just smile and look at them for like 2 seconds. Hopefully they'll see you out of the corner of their eye and know that you're making an effort to be nice to them.

If this doesn't work, either pretend you're busy with something while you walk by or look like you really to get somewhere.
