I'm sorry it's so loud. YOu can turn it off at night since it has no fish, but once you get fish, you will have to keep it on. I suggest you don't get fish until you get a quieter filter or you somehow quiet the filter down. Some causes for the loudness are a noisy lid. That's easy since you can just remove the lid. If it's coming from the motor, you can try and lubricate the impeller. Try and find some youtube videos on "noisy aquarium filter" or "noise X filter" , etc.

Don't turn off the filter at night when you have fish in the tank, I had the same problem once.
If it is the splashing water (I'm assuming power filter) then you can raise the water level over the filter, although I would suggest having some sort of plant in front of it so you can tell that there is a flow coming from it.
If it is rattling then it could be too loose against the side of the tank, you could wedge in a plastic sucker to see if that helps. Alternatively it may just be a cheap filter with a bit of a rattly fan, but that's usually not too noisey once in the tank.
If you are using a sponge filter with the air bubbles coming out of it, then there's not much you can do.
I got used to it after a while, if you can't sort it or get used to it then I would advise buying a new and quieter filter.

You can turn it off at night, but it will double the time it takes to cycle your tank. If it takes 6-8 weeks to do a nitrogen cycle before getting fish, it may take you 12-14 weeks before you get your actual fish. So you will have to consider whether it's really worth it to wait that long or if you can just make yourself get used to it. Raising the water level will also muffle te impact of the water, keep it maybe a half an inch below the black strip.

maybe something's wrong with it? check it out and maybe clean it. or it may just be a s***y filter. mine is in my room as well and sometimes i have to turn it off for the night. if it's just every once in a while, but it may mess up the cycle, so just keep an eye on it.
