Was is a case of simply not wanting it enough?
For Chelsea, this was their last chance (for Terry, Lampard, Drogba) at the Champions League.
For Barca, everyone but Cesc and Alexis have already won it all, and i think it's fair to say those 2 were out best performers throughout this tough period/slump.
Everyone except for Puyol (maybe), Keita (who will probably leave) and maaaybbeee Xavi (but i REALLY doubt it) will have a chance to win it again.... complacency?

The statistics were incredibly in favour of Barca they just couldn't finish. It was a mixture of poor finishing, great goalkeeping/defending and luck
