Fence post next to tree?

I am running a prebuilt panel fence with posts every 6 feet and when marking out the post locations 1 post is right at the base of a tree. I am pretty sure it will be impossible to dig a post hole there. Can I cut a panel in half and attach it directly to the fence at that point to get the post away from the tree? That section of fence would then be 9 feet long without a post. Is that okay?

Ideally you would have started the fence at the tree going either way...I'd secure the post to the tree with a combination lag screw,..and threaded end, and nuts. The bottom of the post would end flush with the ground , and a metal rod (maybe 6" long)in the bottom of the post and in the ground(tree root)..To keep the bottom in-line..

on the other side of the fence,..at the hieght of the top horizontal board,.. connect another board 12' long,.. connecting two post and the tree..It would help if it were adjustable so that the tree can grow..
