Has a Hockey Player ever gave himself his own nickname?

I know this is random. But, The Reason I ask is because NBA LA Laker's Basketball player Ron Artest is making headlines. He elbowed a player during a game and is suspended 7 games. I should mention, "Ron Artest" is not his name however. He decided to Change his Name to "Meta World Peace" (Before this Elbowing Incident took place.) His name on the back of his Professional LA Lakers Jersey, It DOES say "World Peace". So he is Formerly known as Ron Artest I guess. And yes, I am being dead serious and not making this up lol

So, Even though this player Really Changed his Actual name....I know NHL Players have had/have "nicknames" like:

"Mr Hockey" Gordie Howe

Maurice "The Rocket" Richard

Eddie "The Eagle"

"Sid the Kid" Sidney Crosby

"Alexander the Great" Alex Ovechkin

Have all of these or other NHL Nicknames been made by the Media and/or Fans? Has any Hockey Player given themself their own nickname? Discuss.

Also, Has any Hockey Player Ever Changed their name like B-ball player Meta World Peace (Formerly known as Ron Artest)? And I don't mean a name change example like a Russian Hockey Player tweaking his last name because of pronounciation Issues or something, I mean a "Cocky and Arrogant" Name Change?

Not sure if this counts but people in Montreal called Benoit Pouliot "Le Poulet", which means the chicken in french. Last year on a Q&A he said that's the nickname he'd pick for himself if he had the choice and people kept calling him like that but usually to make fun of him. I guess he sort of gave himself that stupid nickname but luckily for him he's not in Montreal anymore lol

The old goaltender Kolzig was known as Godzilla at some point I think? And Cujo (Curtis Joesph) was a popular one. Not sure if they were self created but they were good ones
