I prefer to say that, geographically, large islands are not a part of a continent. However, both politically and geologically, the island of Ireland (of which Northern Ireland is a part) is within the ambit of Europe.

You need to find a job and right now that's like finding leprechaun shite. You can't claim welfare until you've been resident here a long time. You'd need a passport as we are not part of the Schengen area. You need to be resident 5 years before you can apply for citizenship, but the waiting list after applying is a couple of years. This is before you can apply, you aren't guaranteed to get it, and you wouldn't have to renounce Portuguese citizenship to get it. No disrespect, but I think you have the "Hollywood" notion of Ireland. You should come here for a month and see if you like it first.
