I am doing an audition for my musical theatre class. My song is "I enjoy being a girl"... any ideas?
from flower drum song.
It's like a mock audition that we do as part of the show at the end of the semester. So its in front of my parents = super nerve-wracking!! We're allowed to have props and its only the 16 bar chorus so I need to be overly-girly to get my point across in only a minute.
I was thinking about wearing flowers in my hair and maybe curling it for the show, possibly holding an old fashioned hand mirror. I have a red dress and black leggings and red stilettos (which I will change out of later lol). Does anyone have any ideas???
btw here's the song- I'm just doing the last part though 4:17 to the end

Thanks soo much for any suggestions!!

Oh, that's a great song. Like the other person said, a makeup brush (with nothing on it, obviously) would be a great touch. A hairbrush would also be pretty cool, and you could use it as a makeshift microphone, as though your character were singing around in her room! And empty bottle of perfume could also work. Maybe you could put on a feather boa and/or a fancy hat at some point, too?
And obviously use your most upstage hand for any props so you don't block your face.

Hope you're good with imitations because if you have any talking parts in it then you will have to sound really girly like a Barbie if you don't already have that voice. The rest is really good. You can also try having a makeup bag. You can pull out like the brush to put on blush and lipstick. That would add a really nice touch to it. You're clothes are really nice. With the red dress you can also try to have on a black coat. Like a winter coat without the fur on it. Hope this helps and good luck!

When I sang this song, the stage was set as a "powder room." I was in a bathrobe with a girly nightgown underneath and curlers in my hair. Bring a hand mirror on stage and "check" yourself while you sing. Play it up.
