    You're asking an extremely complicated and important question that people have written whole books about. Of course christians will say that lucifer/satan are the the same and are officially evil - however, that's just dogma and most christians haven't done any research into it at all.

    Lucifer means 'Light Bringer' - this is a metaphor - to bring Light to someone means to spiritually illuminate them within, so they know spiritual truth and God (the REAL God).

    The snake in Eden represents Lucifer who by telling woman she would not die (as God had lied to her) when she gained the 'knowledge of good and evil' she/he then became conscious, self-aware, sentient human beings with free-will - God did not want this to happen; he wanted people to remain 'innocent', which means like obedient animals like when they had no shame (like an animal) of being naked.

    So God was enraged with Lucifer for illuminating humans - God banished Lucifer and cursed him and threw the humans into the world to suffer. Ever since then the church has despised Lucifer, because God cursed him and the church has called him satan and the devil, etc.

    There is even more to it than that - you will have to do more reading about it yourself.

    The name Lucifer appears once in the Scriptures, and only in some versions of the Bible. For example, the American Bible Jerome translates well Isaiah 2:12: PM "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, that nacias morning? ".

    The Hebrew word that is poured into "Lucifer" means "shining". The Septuagint uses a Greek word that means "the One who brings the dawn", hence some of the translations used expressions such as "morning star" or "Lucero of the morning". On the other hand, the Latin Vulgate, Jerome, uses "Lucifer" (light bearer) and therefore, this word appears in several versions of the Bible.

    Who is Lucifer? The expression "shining", or "Lucifer", is located in the "the proverbial against the king of Babylon" that Isaiah prophetically ordered to declare the Israelites. Therefore, is part of a saying addressed primarily to the dynasty of the kings Babylonians. The fact that the adjective "shining" is of a man and not a spirit manifests itself most clearly with the phrase: "To the nether world you will lower". The Nether World is the common burial of humanity, not a place where dwell the Devil. In addition, who see Lucifer in this state they ask: "Is this the man who was shaking the earth". It is therefore clear that the name "Lucifer" corresponds to a human being, not a spirit (Isaiah 2:4 PM, 15, 16).

    Lucifer is Satan the devil. Lucifer was his angelic name, before he tried to overpower God. God cast him from Heaven and that is how he got the name Satan or the Devil.

    No, although many forward the idea that “Lucifer” is the devil or satan this is in fact untrue, scripturally the term applied to the dynasty of Babylonian human kings and was never used as a description for the devil.

    The idea that “Lucifer” is the devil seems to have derived from the misunderstandings of the established churches and further promoted by the film industry.

    Bible encyclopaedias explain this to be the case and also wikipedia in the link below;

    "Lucifer" was the latin translation for "day-star" in the poem Isaiah 14

    This was a reference to the King of Babylon - most likely Nebuchadnezzar

    It is a song rejoicing in Babylon's defeat.

    Source(s): Isaiah 14 "... (4) you shalt take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say: How hath the oppressor ceased! ... (12) How art thou fallen from heaven, O day-star, son of the morning!..."
