Best soft toy for a power chewer?

I have a 90lbs Lab mix that absolutely loves to chew! The only problem is that he destroys just about everything we give him.

My husband just brought home a fire hose dog toy http://www.ihelppets.com/Products/Firehose.html which my pup had destuffed in less than 3 minutes but the second I saw it, I knew would happen.

I've given up on Kongs because those just don't last long, even the black extreme ones.

He has a nylabone that he hasn't destroyed, but thats probably because he refuses to chew on it since its so hard.

I just feel bad because he really can't have any toys. He is such a good dog, he wont chew on anything other than his toys, but you can just see how happy he is to chew on them. For any of you that have power chewers, what do you think the best SOFT toy is?

Thanks!

I have a power chewer pit mix. We've done well with the Nylabone Galileo Bones, the Hartz DuraPlay line and the Tuffies. I forget the name of the extra tough Tuffies, but that's what you need in that line. We've done well with some, but not all, of the Kongs (the red ones).

Where we get into trouble is that my dog's bite strength would dictate a toy that is too large for her to comfortably chew. So we usually go up a size in Kongs, or supervise her with the ones that fit her mouth but are a bit too soft. The rubber makes it flexible enough that she still plays with them.

Hooves and bully sticks! I actually have a Husky mixture who's additionally a "skill chewer." there is not any reason to spend $10-20 on bite toys. Hooves are ninety 9 cents each and every & bully sticks variety in cost, yet they are no greater desirable than $3.00 each and every. per my adventure, those are via a good distance the acceptable & maximum inexpensive bite toys for dogs who ruin maximum toys.

    He sounds like my girl.

She is a power chewer too!

I am afraid with dogs like that, soft toys just wont last.

Or at least I am yet to find one that does.

Toys and my dog do not mix.

She loves them, but destroys them in minutes.

They are SO expensive it is wasteful.

I dont even bother with kongs, anymore.

One thing that has been good value though are bully sticks from the pet store.

They are edible though of course.

But very cheap and a nice treat for them.

    Low fat.

They only cost about $1.50 (Aust) each.

Dogs love them far more than a nylabone treat or anything artificial.

They are also not too hard on the teeth, which is why I like them.

If I get a large one - She will usually chew on it for 20 minutes or so.

Leave it - then maybe finish it the next day.

Many things last longer, but because they are harder, may also pose a risk to teeth, through wear or chipping.

As far as edible treats go, that are safe on teeth...

Bully sticks are cheap, safe and last longer than most other "softer" edible chews.

They are still hard, just not teeth breaking hard!

Deer antlers also are supposedly good for avid chewers, but I have not used them personally.

I have also used cow hooves.

These are great and last days, if not weeks for the dogs to go back to, repeatedly.

    They are also cheap.

However, again because they are so hard, and she chews so avidly, I found them riskier to my dogs teeth.

I also cant feed her hard weight bearing bones, such as marrow bones for this reason, either.

I look forward to reading what others may suggest!

    EDIT:

FYI - As far as soft toys go...

My dog loves them so much, but destroys them in minutes, leaving stuffing EVERYWHERE!

The pet store ones are just too expensive to waste like that.

So now I only buy them from the "good will" (second hand clothes store).

They cost about .50cents (old kids toys).

    Pick and choose what suits.

She only gets them occasionally (due to the mess etc).

But she LOVES when I bring one out (I keep a stash of them).

I figure for .50 cents each - she can have her minute of destructive joy - lol.

I don't give my girl anything with stuffing anymore...she does well with the stuffing-free plush toys, knotted rope toys, and an old t-shirt...my dog is a strong chewer but not a super power chewer as you describe yours...

She also likes Starmark's Everlasting Treat Ball (rubbery), but I quit buying the "everlasting treats" that go in it, because she was eating them too fast...you can put kibble or tiny treats inside the ball though and your pup will have fun chewing, tossing, and rolling the ball to get them out. So far, she's not been able to damage the ball (and she's had it about a year)...

No soft toy that I know of will withstand a dog that bites through Kong's. As for nylabones, my corgi cracked her tooth on one. I had to pay the doggie dentist over $1000 dollars to fix it. At the shelter we have had good luck with Kong balls. Make sure you get the kind that is solid. they have ones that you put food in and that wouldn't work for you.
