Is my mystery snail dead?
I've had 3 snails for about 5 months now. They are all mystery snails that I purchased at my college town's Walmart. They are all usually very active, and I have a very nice tank for them with plenty of room. Lately, I've been quite concerned about my yellow mystery snail. He has not moved in about 2 weeks, so he has not had anything to eat. My other snails are completely fine, but for some reason he has stopped moving. I know that dead snails smell very bad, and he does not smell at all. I am not sure if he is in a hibernation phase or what. I do not have much experience caring for aquatic creatures, but I do a lot of research online to make sure I am taking care of them properly. The tank water has been treated Jungle Brand "Start Right" tap water conditioner. My snail has been in the same spot for 2 weeks. It looks like his shell door is very tightly closed and it goes up inside the shell about 1/4 centimeter. Help!
Thanks for your advice, everyone. I took him out and he did smell. He was hanging halfway out of his shell, and i poked him gently with a small plastic spoon and did not get any response. I flushed him today in the toilet in my dorm. Rest in peace, Peanut the snail =( I will change the water to make sure my other snails do not get infected. Thank you all for your advice.

Mine did that mysteriously, no pun intended. He didn't smell; actually, none of my snails smelled funky when they died. I believe it's safe to say he's gone.

Pull him out again and smell him. He will definitely smell horrible if he is dead. Perhaps put him in a shallow dish of water until he moves. He may he dying, sadly. I had one snail not move for a long time and I was worried he was dead. He wasn't but ended up dying a few weeks later.

When snails die they rot the water and if it has been deas for 14 days you are in danger of the water becoming toxic to the other snails.
Scoop him out and check -
