Readers, I have dialogue preference question?

How do you feel about interjections and literary ejaculations in dialogue?

In case you are not familiar with what I am talking about, they are words like Argh, Um, Ah, Oh, Woe, etc.

Do they add to the talking, or distract from the story?

jk rowling does that all the time in harry potter, and personally, i think it helps set the mood and tone of the scene, and how harry or whoever is saying it feels. when they say "er" for instance, i can tell they don't know quite what to say, or they're nervous, you know.

use it well though, not all over the place.

Well, don't use them randomly in dialogue (like a normal person would) only use it to really emphasize someone's emotions (or, in case of "um/ah" that they don't know what to say).

So not "'Well, you see, um, Bob and I went to the mall,'" but more like "'What's the answer to number six?' the teacher asked. 'Um, uh, South Africa?' the student replied. It was obvious he hadn't been paying attention."

I think having those in dialogue makes it seem the most realistic since people say it all the time in real life, not distracting at all. In other words, go for it.

No it adds well to the dialogue but don't over do it because that's when it becomes distracting. I recommend it as long as it is used wisely and only when necessary.

Answers: I think they add to the talking, but other it seems people overuse them to much and when they good have siad "he groaned" or whatever.

As for what you put on mine: It was unappreciated, and no I don't expect someone to hold my hand through it. I just wanted people to see it, and tell me how to improve so I can become a better writer. So yes I have listened to other people. Get your head out of my buisness, and get a life other then yahoo answers. You shouldn't even know how much times I have posted it.
