Graduate Degree or Gang Initiation?

So I've been at my current university for two years now working on a grad degree. Between professors either feeling superior to me as a human being (not just cause they have a doctorate), busting my hump for shullbit or just plain giving me a hard time. I just don't know what to think.

Honestly, I feel like I'm going through some club/gang initiation. Except I'm getting beat mentally and not physically. At least with a gang initiation a brother will stand up for me, be there for me, and die for me. With this Master's that I'm trying to get, it seems that I'll only get a completed transcript, a kick in the a$$, and a pat on the back.

For those of you who have master's degrees was it worth it? Did you feel any better a few years down the road, or do you wish you'd spent that time doing something else?

A very wise woman I once knew told me, you know, we get all over the fraternities and sororities on this campus about hazing, but the what graduate programs do to their students is every bit as bad--it's just more sophisticated, and the people doing it have the power to get away with it.

I have a master's degree, and it was totally worth it. I have a career I'm really happy with, and I never would have gotten where I am without that degree. And yeah, at times, getting through the degree program was pretty hellish--but I'm still glad I did it (and glad it's done!!)

I don't know what field your degree is in, or what it will do for you when you're done. But you've invested this much time and effort and blood...might as well keep going and find out!

With that attitude, nothing you do is ever going to be worth it.

Yes, graduate school is a lot of jumping through hoops. But if you stop fighting what people are trying to teach you, it will go a lot better.

And you should be getting lots of support from the other M.A. students- if you haven't alienated them all with your superior attitude.
