Wife died in auto accident need help dealing with the party at fault insurance company. Please.?
They sent me a check for a really small amount that does not even cover 1/3 of funeral expenses. Is that check hush money? I did not want to hire lawyer that would over charge for doing what?
Thanks for help thus far.
She died in a remote area. Both her and driver where drinking. Hardest part to deal with, is that she was left for two days in a ditch. He sobered up, reported the car stolen, on day two. Now is pleading "i don't remember" I'm afraid he'll say she was the driver. Right know the case is in crimminal court. She have two kids, one im looking after and the other one her mom is careing for. Her mom told me to handle everthing, bit of pressure No? I've been to consultations and every lawyer wants the case. My insurance knows and i've been in touch with the other adjuster. Will the adjuster work on my behalf?

No.
Insurance companies don't pay "hush money".
Since we know nothing about what happened - your best bet is to call the adjuster handling the claim and speak with them. The adjuster will be able to answer your questions and explain what the check is for.
I am sorry for your loss.

My condolences on your loss.
Absolutely get an attorney. You will have no trouble finding one to represent you.
I know that no amount of money can replace your loss, but handling this on your own will be a mistake. If the insurance company is trying to get away with just giving you that small amount, you need an advocate.
Keep in mind, the other party's liability limits may be extremely low. That could be the reason you only got a small amount of money.
You also should be involving your own insurance company.

Do not cash it and hire a lawyer. If you cash it that clears then of any further responsibility. You say you don't want a lawyer for doing what. He knows the laws and will get you what you are entitled to. Otherwise the insurance company will take advantage of you.

Is your Insurance Agent/Provider aware of this? It's your responsibility to advise them immediately. They will then handle the claim for you and see that you are compensated appropriately. They can also handle/assist with legal fees in your defense, but they have to have been advised and ask you to step back. If you have not asked them to get involved you can hurt what your entitled to.
Do not cash the check until you have talked with your Agent as cashing it could be an acceptance of offer.
You are entitled to payment for a number of options. Loss of life, Loss of income, medical/funeral expenses, etc.

Contact a lawyer. A lawyer WILL NOT CHARGE YOU unless you WIN! If you win, then expect the lawyer to keep about 1/3. If you do not win, the lawyer gets nothing. If your wife was not at fault, you can get a huge settlement. Go with a reputable law firm.
