So, my girlfriends pregnant. Now what? Please help?

Before you read, please don't be an *** and say we should've waited and stuff like that. This site is here to help people.

So, she's 18, and I'm 17. We cant afford the doctors, and don't really know much about when the first appointment should be and stuff like that.

Is there some kind of financial aid we can get?

Update:

We're not insured, and no, we just moved so we have no jobs at all.

Update 2:

According to pregnancy calculators, shes about 4 weeks and 3 days along

Update 3:

And no. We will NOT abort or adopt our baby. We want our child but we need help affording it.

Ok first of all, I'm 16 and pregnant so I know what you're going through. Trust me. Read all the advice I give you please. I had no idea how we were going to pay for it! I was totally freaked. Every adult on here is going to disagree with me on this one, but there is a way to pay for the doctors visits and the delivery, and insure the baby also after he/she is born. You're girlfriend needs to get on Medicaid. She needs to go up to the Health Department and get a form to fill out. Your families income does NOT matter. This is based solely off of her income. So, if she has a job, she'll write her income down, or if she recieves child support from her dad. But she will definitely be covered. So she will talk to somebody from the Health Department (you don't make an appointment, you just walk in). When I went alone, the woman just asked me about my income and I had to have proof of child support, she asked me a few very simple questions, and then she approved me just like that. She printed out my "Award letter" which was my temporary medicaid card, and the card came in the mail later. From there, she scheduled me an appointment with a "Maternal Caretaker" who scheduled me an appointment at the baby doctor! Lol. So it's a little* complicated, but it was such a relief because I initially thought that they went off of your parents income, and my household income would have been too high. So understand that no matter how much your girlfriends HOUSEHOLD income is, she will have all of her doctors visits paid for and the delivery, and the baby will be insured when he/she is born. On the form, it asks for the families income because that form also includes other programs, but she does NOT have to put her families income. Make sure you specify that you want JUST THE PREGNANCY insured if you need it based off of her income alone. I hope I helped you, if you have any questions, email me and I'll try and get back to you as soon as I can. (mstewarttttt@yahoo.com).

Here's some other advice I can offer you. I had my first doctors appointment at 8 weeks and 5 days. You need to try and schedule it as soon as possible. Since she's not insured, she needs to begin the process I mentioned above as soon as she can, so have here go up to the Health Department some day this week if possible. She needs to start taking prenatal vitamins. They help a lot with the development of the baby to ensure your baby develops right! :) You can get these at Walmart for now. They're pretty big pills and really gross, but they're important! The doctor will give you some prenatal pills once you visit for the first time, and these were much* better than the ones I bought from Walmart. Depending on how early she is, you may be able to hear the heartbeat! :) It is amazing. There are some pretty helpful books she can get to help her deal with pregnancy symptoms and learn about her developing baby. I bought the popular book "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and it's pretty helpful! One very important piece of advice I can give you is to be very patient with her. She is going to be dealing with a LOT. Her hormones can turn her into a different person. Seriously. She is probably going to turn into a b**** to a certain extent. You just have to be patient with her because she can't help it. I hope I helped!

medicaid is the best option for your situation. there are also places you can look into about ten mother having a place to stay when their baby is born. As for when you should go see a doctor, you really don't have to see one up until her 12th week of pregnancy since miscarriage possibilities are high so most doctors don't see it as a great necessity to go sooner in case she loses the baby.

She can apply for Medicaid. It's a federal program. Go online and find out how to fill out an application for it. She'll get medical treatment up through delivery.
