Computer fried both usb devices?

I was using my laptop today and I got a fullscreen vertical black and purple stripe pattern. I restarted my computer and my mouse and digital camera (that were plugged into the computer at the time) are both fried.

Normally I would think it was a power surge but my laptop is plugged into a surge protector and my charger and battery itself would stop a serge anyway...

It is a Pavilion g6

Anyone have any idea what happened?

A power surge would be highly unlikely to affect your laptop.

There is little in a mouse that can go wrong and the digital camera was on a USB cable I presume!

Two options, a fault on the motherboard, the USB ports and display are affected but it restarts and runs the hard drive to do so indicating the Power supply and most of the motherboard, processor are OK!

Other option is a virus which has knocked out the USB's and Display.

First reboot, whilst pressing the F8 key, this will put the system in safe mode, if the display comes on it will be odd with large images and characters, struggle with it and run your anti virus scan!

If the screen is still shot take it to a repair shop for a check, try the camera without it's memory card and mouse on another PC, I'm sure they will be fine!
