Why do people pray for each other?

That is a religious question that has been debated for centuries.

Two schools of thought:

1) We like to help one another, son why not pray for each other.

2) It is offensive to god.. Because it presumes god won't do anything unless he hears many people asking. The problem is this. What if god does act on hearing the first prayer (or the 5th). Then the extra prayers are for something that has already been done, hence the offense to god.

In all these type of debates, it would be just too easy to resolve the issue, if god would just make a personal appearance and express his opinion on it.

this is a good question ok the power of prayer in his word he tell us to pray for each other because

"the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective"

there more to this the truth of it's the argeement ok in his word he say whenever 2 or more people meet in his name he is there in the mist that why you should pray in groups but God does not listen to our words that not what makes him appear it's our Faith God listens to our faith it can be 1million people all together all wanting the same thing but if they don't have Faith nonthing will happend

I think praying does more for the person who is praying than for the person they pray for. It doesn't really change anything, but if it makes someone feel better to pray for a friend or relative's recovery from an illness or that this person come through a crisis, I won't stop them.

Yes your right God does hear your prayers from you. But the reason why people pray for one another is to help them and encourage them to be led by GOD. Thats what brothers and sisters are for. People need encouragement and love. God gives you that but its also time to get the stronger precense of GOD. i go to a pentecostal church and when i pray at the altar with my sister in the LORD (rashel) we could feel God stronger and mighty .! Read the bible and God will show you things that you would have never thought of <3 God bless you. (kjv bible)

Prayer is not solely about GETTING things.

Genuine prayer is part of God's plan of salvation for helping the one praying to become more Christ-like in character. It develops trust, patience and spiritual strength.

Praying for others is in harmony with God's plan for helping us to overcome selfishness which is the root principle of sin.

God does hear your prayers but when people get together and pray it shows the unity of the people and their want.

Hi, we pray n pray n pray but to whom? Unless we seek Lord Jesus Christ,the Son of God,our so-called prayers r just self righteous expressions of our sinful selves!!!! Pls first repent of yr sins to the Son of God,Lord Jesus Christ,seeking n begging for sin forgiveness,seeking grace n mercy n everything else will b added to u.Then u may pray for others,but u can't repent of their sins,but can share with them this message of repentence n sin forgiveness from Lord Jesus Christ.Pray wherever u r,in spirit n truth,keep away from idols.

Praying to an All-Knowing God is like that pesky six-year-old neighbor kid repeatedly and persitantly coming into your backyard every time he sees you to blantantly teach you first grade math as if you are too stupid to know it already.

At the very least it's a placebo, which is an objective measurable effect, so worth doing.
