Is Joe Romm, the AGW alarmist in-chief, backing away from the catastrophic man-made Global Warming mantra?

----------------------

It was James Lovelock that reverseed himself last week and admitted he was an 'alarmist.' Will Joe Romm be the next in a long line of man-made Global Warming true believers to abandon ship?

This notion that the environmental movement — or any other major play in the media landscape — is pushing non-stop apocalyptic messages like a broken record is one I debunked... ---- [ Joe Romm, April 29, 2012 ]

CONCLUSION: Unrestricted emissions of greenhouse gases threaten multiple catastrophes, any one of which justifies action. Together, they represent the gravest threat to humanity imaginable. ---- [ Joe Romm, November 15, 2010 ]

----------------------

Update:

----------------------

Ottawa Mike - I don't know why you would think he's running from Lovelock when Lovelock is never mentioned in the article by Romm that the 2012 quote was taken from. I'd post a link to it for you, but that would probably knock my question out of the queue.

But If you want to read it, search on:

"A Critique Of The Broken-Record Counterfactual Message of The New York Times On Environmentalists and Scientists"

----------------------

Update 2:

pegminer - Seriously pegminer, you don't know who Joe Romm is? He is pretty much the Marc Morano of your side. But maybe you don't know who Marc Morano is either... he is the head-guy at Climate Depot.

----------------------

Update 3:

Jeff - Glad to see you know who Marc Morano is, he is one of our top warriors and yes he did work for Senator Inhofe, who is without a doubt the man I respect the most on Capital Hill.

And Morano's site, Climate Depot, is my favorite site for up-to-date information on the Climate wars.

No, I think Joe will just do the alarmist (and political) trick of preaching doom and gloom and then when his predictions don't come to pass he will just say that he never said that or he was misquoted.

Marc Morano is also the lead guy behind Inhofe. You forgot that little part.

"Morano was hired in Spring 2006 as the Director of Communications to US Senator James Inhofe"

He's not a climatologist but he does have a BA in political science. Thank God eh?

And, like has been posted in here, he is distancing himself from Lovelock as should the rest of the scientific community if they haven't already. I';m fairly certain though that quite a few of them had already done so prior to this.

I thought Al Gore was your scapegoat-in-chief...

Personally, I think that various people are just either clarifying their actual positions or admitting to saying things that were 'alarmist' for speculating about possible dire consequences of anthropogenic global warming. So far I haven't seen anyone actually admit that there isn't a need to be concerned about even the more mild possible effects or that they were wrong to accept AGW. I think that this really has something to do with all the various denier ploys to discredit them by focusing only on their worst-case scenario claims in interviews (not in a scientific presentation or debate) and the addition of 'Catastrophic" to AGW to try and make them seem like doomsayers.

I always find it amusing that deniers like yourself are familiar with so many "alarmists" that I've never heard of. I guess I don't read enough blogs.

EDIT: Never heard of Marc Morano either, but then I don't read blogs. I will admit to occasionally reading Jeff Masters on Weather Underground, though, to find out what's happening in the tropics.

No, I believe Joe Romm is backing away from James Lovelock.

And I believe as a result of all this he will start the process of trying to figure out how to be a catastrophic alarmist without sounding like a catastrophic alarmist, if that makes any sense.

In the end, people like Romm have what combat fighter pilots refer to as "target fixation".

I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more of this as November approaches. Gotta love the denial of alarmist that alarmist actually exist.

Denial is the first stage of grief.
