no idea of the cost and i think they want to charge too much! help!?
recently, i was hit by some drunk guy and rear ended. i have a toyota matrix 2009.
im trying to get quotes on how much the fixing will cost but i have a feeling they want to charge us too much for it!... (im not paying but still, need to be fair).
i was told i need to replace the whole back bumper and get a paint job. i think this is ridiculous, the bumper is around 300 and 400 dollars!
how much would the paint work cost?
the car has some scratches on the back and it has been hit like i said, but i think that can be fixed with hand work? or am i wrong?
in any case, the painting i understand cus it looks horrible, but...
my question is... how much should i expect to pay for this?
they want to charge me about 700 dollars for it all..
please helpp!!!

$700 to fix any underlying damage caused, replace the plastic piece, and repaint it all to match the rest of the car is probably the cheapest price you'll find to fix it and have it not look like crap when it's done. $700 is actually pretty cheap when it comes to having a shop do any kind of body work.
With any kind of body work requiring repainting, the paint must be blended on all the surrounding panels, even if they weren't hit, if you want it to look right when it's finished. That takes time. Then there's also the possibility that some of the bumper hardware (behind the plastic panel) was damaged from the impact. Most modern bumpers aren't designed to take more than a 2.5 mph impact without suffering damage. It's possible that the body shop will have to replace some of that hardware supporting the bumper too. The hardware isn't expensive, but replacing it adds time to the repair and labor time isn't cheap regardless of where you go.

Actually this sounds like a reasonable price for both the bumper and the entire amt of work to be done. Shop fees /labor rates are outrageous. $50-$120 per hour depnding on the shop and location. They are probably pricing NEW parts from a dealer Used parts from a salvage yard might be cheaper but will require more prep work.
