My advice for you on (4x^2 - 17x + 4) is to use long division since the equation is difficult to begin with, such that:
a = 4, b = -17, c = 4
For long division, you'll need to do:
[ - (-17) +/- sqrt ({-17}^2 - 4 {4}{4}) ] / 2 (4)
Calculating the above equation, you'll get:
[ 17 +/- sqrt (289 - 64) ] / 8
= [17 +/- sqrt (225)] / 8
Fortunately, the square root of 225 is a whole number, which is 15. Your result will look like this:
= [17 +/- 15] / 8
In which, you'll get the following:
1) (17 - 15) / 8 = 2/8 = 1/4
2) (17 + 15) / 8 = 32/8 = 4
So your answer will look like this:
(4x - 1) (x - 4) / (x - 4)
Cancel (x - 4) from both numerator and denominator, and you'll get:
4x - 1

Factor and then divide:
(4x - 1)(x - 4)/(x - 4)
4x - 1
I hope this information was very helpful.

(4x-1)(x-4)/ (x-4) =
4x-1
