Why does a dog's fur change colour?

Hi, I have a bichon shih tzu mid who is around 2-3 years old. Until she was about 7 months old, she had shih tzu fur. What I mean by that is that her fur was only a little bit wavy and had the colouring of a shih tzu. After she turned about 7 months old though, her fur started to grow more wavy and turned almost completely white. Now, she is still white but the large patches of tan color seem to be returning ( about 10-15% of the hairs are tan now instead of white). Is this normal? I've heard of dogs that don't have their final "coats" until later in life (silver poodles, Dalmations), but my dog changed in a different way than i've seen before. Also, does anyone know why this fur change occurs?? Thanks for helping me!

Yes this is normal, unless its falling out in large patches and your finding problems with the skin its completely normal. Many things affect your dogs fur changes, sunlight, liquid intake, and food, and breed of the dog. My Blue pit, was born completely gray, with a white chest, her gray fur, now has stripes coming through of a fawn color, and has gotten much lighter, she is really cool looking. This is completely normal for a dog, especially if the bloodline has any mix in it down its line, not even a mix, just other colors as well.

It is normal for Zuchons to go through a period of fur change after maturity. The texture of their coat changes from that of a puppy to that of an adult, which is more harsh and wavy.
