Where can I purchase a NEW infant or child sized gas mask or respirator?
I want to purchase an infant sized gas mask or P95 or greater respirator. Child size small will be ok but infant size is preferable. I do not want some Israeli or russian crap. I especially don't want an antique from WWII. I'm hoping to find an american, modern, and possibly government issue mask.

The problem with infants and children using gas masks are that their lungs may not be strong enough to breathe through regular filters. Or they can get frightened or may not know how to use them correctly. And like the first answer said, they'd also have to be able to clear the mask if need be. That is, once the mask is on, closing your eyes and covering the air-in valve while exhaling hard a few times out through the exhale valve to expel any contaminants that may have gotten in while putting it on especially if caught in an attack or in a contaminated environment. Masks designed for infants are typically hoods with powered air filters. Like these ones:

The company that makes the (Baby) Scape 30 CBRN, ILC Dover, also makes the spacesuits for NASA with other military contracts. The other ones like the Baby Safe Pro are Israeli, but not sold as used and old surplus. Here's another article on the Scape 30. Seems it's also used by homeland security, responders, government and military personnel according to them.

The Scape is out of stock at AGM. Don't know if or when they'll have it back in stock again. Or if you can get it new from another seller. ProKI sell it too and I've ordered from them before but their customer service is pretty much nonexistent if you have any problems ordering.

Compared to gas masks, escape hoods aren't nearly as good. They're for escaping a hazard zone quickly. Which should be the same principle even with a gas mask since they're not for you to live in forever, but gas masks are still better. It looks like those are the best there is for children.
If it can be helped, the Russian ones are definitely to be avoided. Since there are so many that are newer and better and more reliable. And generally they and the Israeli ones are decades old surplus, or new old stock. But both the Israeli (the civilians were given the civilian/youth masks and the IDF uses the M15) and Russian ones do work if they're in working condition with valves tested and used with a new compatible filter.
The modern American government issue masks are just standard gas masks they buy from several major companies like MSA and Avon (like the Avon M50, MSA Millennium, MSA Advantage 1000, M40, and MSA MCU2P for armed forces, law enforcement, and first responders to name a few, with the M50 being the current issue to all branches of the US military and some LE) . They're really not designed for infants, though a mask that's a size small would probably fit toddlers and up with the straps also being adjustable. Most adults use a medium or large.
Source(s): I use the MSA Millenniums and older MCU2APs. I like it better than any other, because its panoramic visor has a better field of view than two eye lenses and it's stylish. - Anonymous9 years ago
I'm not trying to sound like an *** but I don't think an infant could don and clear a mask properly anyways so it would be useless
