Skeletal muscles are the muscles which are attached to the bones of our legs and arms. These parts we can move at our will because of these muscles. Under microscope, the cells of these muscles are cylindrical in shape, multinucleated, with alternate pattern of light and dark regions.

Smooth muscles present in the wall of our stomach, esophagus, eyelids, iris work without our will. Under microscope, these muscle cells are spindle shaped with single nucleus.

Cardiac muscles are present only in the wall of our heart which are involuntary in their function. They work from the time of birth till the time of death without any stoppage. Under microscope, these muscles are much branched, each cell is having a single nucleus, presence of characteristic intercalated discs.

Skeletal muscles connect bones. Smooth muscles connect tissue (i.e. stomach or bladder) and cardiac muscle is your heart (technically a "smooth" muscle).
