What would be a good game to learn how to play first person shooters on xbox?

I am a big video game fan, and I am quite versed in iPhone games (Dead Space, N.O.V.A, etc), and some compter games (Limbo, Dragon Age, Aquaria, Portal), but I want to learn how to play on an xbox. My brothers have an xbox, but I never play on it with them because I am always embarrassed at my horrible lack of skill with the controller. The only game I have ever played through was Portal 2. What would be a good, beginner level game for me to play on xbox, to teach me the controls and not make me feel like a complete idiot. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Do you think this is the right category for this question?

This is the right category. The best thing to do is play offline on easy mode. If you go online most people are so good you will just die so fast and it is hard to get better. Play offline and go through the campaign on whatever level is challenging enough that you die a few times but can make it through after a bit. Any game is good, COD is the most popular one but relies a lot on very fast reactions and accuracy. Halo takes more shots to get killed so you will get more practice and not just get one shot all the time. A lot of computer games let you hook up a xbox controller into the USB drive, you can practice on there with games. Space Marine is a wicked game that uses a xbox controller., It is simple and short with very basic controls to learn on. You can download it for free too, illegally though.

Like others said try playing Call of duty, all though it cant be quite difficult to learn while playing competitively on xbox live. try playing special ops, or campaign. I would also recommend doing this on halo. But a big, big thing for a lot of people, is the sensitivity (how fast your gun aims when you turn, aim, etc.) and Adjust your screen in the options to how big the TV is. Hope this was help full.

    Sure it's the right section.

Anyway, I would recommend Halo games. Playing the campaign on easy difficulty would help you get used to the game and its controls. Over time, increase to the next level of difficulty to hone your skills. When you feel you're good enough, challenge your brothers to a match and gauge yourself from there. Ultimately, just enjoy the experience.

I would get the general controls down with portal or portal 2. Otherwise, I learned through halo, which has great offline modes which you can change the difficulty on for practice.

Call of Duty: Black ops is a first person shooter, it has a game mode called "Combat training", made for exactly what you described in wanting, FPS practice with dual analogs, you can preset AI enemies to a prefered difficulty. on the easiest difficulty they just walk straight and can barely see.if they do happen to see you they will give you about a 2 second chance to resact before shooting you
