Unresolved Jaw Pain Please Help?
I had dental work done on my lower right mandible five days ago. The dentist later stated he couldn't numb me properly, so he did an intraosseous injection to my back molars to work on them. Since then, my jaw has been very swollen and painful. I asked the dentist to look at it to see if it was infected, but he says it isn't. It hurts more when I lay down, so I can't sleep properly and I'm out of pain killers as of today. I don't want to ask for more pain killers. This is ridiculous! I had all four wisdoms out and that didn't hurt anywhere near as much or as long as this hurts. I imagine this is what a broken jaw feels like. This wasn't even a root canal. What can I do to get this under control? I am at the end of my wits.

i am so sorry to hear you are in so much pain:(
try sleeping with your head raised, and get pain killers from chemist/pharmacy , Nurofen is over the counter and will work a treat. you can take 2 Panadol WITH 2 Nurofen . one will help with swelling the other with pain.
Pain like that could be a dry root, try clove oil for this(sold over the counter) or go back to dentist they should pack it for free as it as a follow up appt.
try ice packs on for 20 min then off for 20 min this should help.
your jaw will be tender and sore as your teeth are moving around a little to settle in not there is space.
try to stay calm and relax, eat soft healthy food high in protein and try to get back to dentist or doctor.I have been through this :( gud luck my friend

There aren't clear cut answers as to what causes TMJ problems or what is the best treatment, so go slowly and don't jump into anything radical like surgery. The results on this are mixed. If you live near a dental school, see if there is a clinic or specialist on this at the dental school. Even though it's counter intuitive, if one side is clicking when you chew, chew on that side. There is less stress on the chewing side. Do wear the splint! If the pain is worst in the am, you probably are grinding in your sleep. Warm compresses to your jaw and anti inflammatory medications (like motrin, advil-trade name ibuprophen) are helpful is there is not a medical reason that you should not take them. Don't go above recommended doses on these

I can't be sure but it could be the cut from the injection usually they are fine but once I had one in the back of my mouth and I had a sore jaw for about a week or two

You could have a minor case of TMJ and the dental work bn shots could have caused swelling. It happens to me a lot.
