    a) You combine the exponents: e^(5+x) = e^7x. Since e is a continuous function, 5 + x = 7x, which means x = 5/6

    b) You subtract the exponents. e^(x-2) = e^5x --> x - 2 = 5x --> 4x = -2 --> x = -1/2

    ---

    a) The domain is all real numbers, since there's no number you can plug in for x that gives any kind of problem.

    b) The domain is also all real numbers. You get no divide by zero errors, negative numbers in a square root, or any sort of problem for any number you plug in for x.
