    Check out the article http://www.la-escuela.com/subject-pronouns/

    The correct answer is:

he is young = él es joven

she is young = ella es joven

Saying "es joven" is grammatically correct, since the subject pronouns in Spanish can be omitted. However, saying simply "es joven" could lead to confusion unless it is VERY clear who you're talking about ("he" or "she", and who is that "he" or that "she"). To avoid confusion, it is better to specify the subject pronoun when the subject of your sentence is the third person singular.

The translation "ELLO es joven", which I read in one of the first answers is incorrect.

"She is young." - "Ella es jóven."

"He is young." - "Él es jóven."

Or, if you have already established whether the subject is male or female, you can simply say, "Es jóven." for either one.
