What is wrong with me - afraid of MS?
I am a 26 year old female with no history of any medical problems at all (except my back goes out once in a while and I go to the chiropractor to fix it).
About 2 weeks ago, I woke up in the middle of the night and could not feel my legs. They were numb, cold, and tingling. I can move them fine and walk fine and have no balance issues. I went to the chiropractor thinking it was a pinched nerve. He adjusted my back but told me I probably have MS. It really scared me so I went to the ER right away. They refused to do an MRI (needed more evidence) and sent me home after drawing blood.
I went to my primary physician and he said the bloodwork was fine and he had no idea what I had. He put me on Prednisone and Nifedeprine, neither of which helped at all. I just returned to him today and he took me off of both and said it was pointless and maybe I should learn to live with this.
I made an appointment with a neurologist but that isn't for 2 more weeks and I'm very scared. Everyone just tells me I probably have MS and need to live with it. The women at work say it's probably a brain tumor and I'll die. I think they're gloating about it. But moving on...
I have numbness in my legs, tingling in my feet, and a cold left foot. I get joint pain too, very mild right now, even in my hands. My heart has been beating irregularly a bit and my blood pressure at the doctor's about 4 hours ago was 90/60, which he said was not a big deal but I feel a bit lightheaded.
What should I do? Any ideas? The doc did say my Vitamin D level was 15, which is supposed to be low, but he wasn't concerned and said it couldn't cause my symptoms.

Your chiropractor told you that you probably have MS? I am sorry, but he does not have the qualifications to make any assumptions like that, and certainly not based on nothing but your symptoms without any MRI, blood work or lumbar puncture results to back this up. Even my neurologist who was specialized in MS did not mention MS until he was 99% sure that was it and had evidence to back it up.
As for the women at your work place. What kind of people are you surrounding yourself with? What kind of person would say to a colleague that she probably has a brain tumor and is going to die? Not a very nice person, in my book, and not a very bright or educated one either. If it helps to hear this from a stranger on the internet, then... your chiropractor and your colleagues are idiots, don't listen to them. I am actually really angry on your behalf that these ignorant people have been scaring you like this.
Listen to your doctors and your neurologist when you see him/her. As you found out, the suspicion and risk of MS is so low that the ER did not want to do an MRI, and there are many issues that can mimic MS, so many that in fact the first step in an MS diagnosis is to eliminate all other possible causes for the symptoms. More often than not, an MS scare turns out not to be MS at all, and sometimes it is something very minor.
I know it is difficult, but try to relax and not stress until your neurologist appointment in 2 weeks, as stress and worrying can aggravate yours symptoms, and if it does turn out to be MS, then 2 weeks is not going to make a difference anyway, especially since you have already had a prednisone treatment. Also try to eat and live healthily.
Hopefully this will turn out to be nothing serious, but if you should end up with an MS diagnosis, then it is not necessarily the end of the world, although it can feel so at the time. I have been living with MS for almost a decade and I am doing fine, as are many others who have been diagnosed with MS.
All the very best to you. I hope you'll give us an update once you know more.

People are jumping to conclusions by making diagnoses and recommending treatments. Your doc was going out on limb by prescribing prednisone without getting a MRI of your lower spine first.
There is no way anyone could know if you have MS or not based on the information at hand. The problem could easily be an ordinary spinal problem such as a bulging disc in your lower back. All of your nerve problems seem to be in your lower extremities, which completely rules out anything in the brain, and virtually rules out MS or at least makes it very unlikely. A MRI or other imaging of your lower spine (and maybe more if warranted) and neurological testing should provide all the info needed to find the problem.
Odd problems with your heart would be expected if this situation is worrying you - that's a normal symptom of anxiety. Joint pain is not a characteristic symptom of MS.
Just relax and wait for your appointment with the neurologist.

Gov. Palin is up for the moment in control of our nation (the VP) and she is going to well-nigh run our Senate. Some individuals are in opposition to her for the reason that they consider she does not have a lot or any enjoy. Some consider that she is not anything greater than a nation bumpkin and that she is a devout zealot so that they can set us all again in ladies's rights... And then a few like her for the reason that she has been in the direction of the core magnificence and has a better knowledge of what we (the core magnificence) needs/demands and that she will be able to establish with us higher than any one that has been up in Washington ceaselessly... Personally it is for the reason that of the moment factor that I like her.. I do consider that for essentially the most side she is nontoxic and I discover this from discovering matters out for myself by way of the countless numbers of assets the web has... Personally I do not consider she will push her devout ideals at the individuals and she or he is real a tolerant man or woman... I do consider she needs to reform our govt as she has performed or attempted to do in her possess state govt... I additionally consider she desire's the fine for America and the American individuals irrespective of what an additional nation thinks or needs... Her fitting Vice President of the USA might be a GIANT step for womens rights, I feel, right here within the USA. But that's no longer the one cause that I myself help her in her achievements... she is the nearest factor to me and individuals like me that has EVER come virtually the White House and the Oval workplace (despite the fact that I realize that could no longer be her situation to reside and paintings).

Hi ya Ash, Everything that Voelven told you is the absolute truth. Every single symptoms of MS mimics no less that 25-30 other diseases and condition. Most people who think they might have MS never get diagnosed with it. Your chiropractor would not know MS if it kicked him in his posterior. He was highly unethical in telling you that you have MS. That was unforgivable. You can ignore your co-workers as well. They have no idea of what they are talking about. Write them off as fools and be done with them.
Read Voelven's answer carefully and take every word that she wrote to heart. I have MS also. I could bet my life on what she wrote and sleep like a baby every night.
