Clutching at straws here. I am in India and a lady I know has just had a baby. It's not drinking mother's....?

...milk at all and will die in a few days. Medical supplies/machinary are limited here so just wondering if anybody can come up with something fast....any suggestions at the moment would be appreciated. Many thanx....

Update:

I will check with her, thanjyou. I was also thinking of a bottle...but then I'm thinking if I can get one here...can't say I've actually seen any. The baby is in 'hospital' but she says the Doctors are not paying much attention to her. Westerners are more likely to have a better idea than even the 'Doctors' here. I fly out in 24 hours and just hoping I can offer some advice of some sort before I leave.....

What do you mean not drinking? Do you mean not able to latch? You can cup feed a newborn mother's milk. Here is a video on how to do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G-NJGerSZY

If baby just simply cannot feed, that is a different story though. More detail would be useful. Contact the nearest medical facility for assistance. Even if they cannot get supplies or anything to you certainly they can advise you how to proceed.

wet nurse? Can the baby feed with bottles? Also, was the baby premmie? And did you check his/her tongue to see if it properly separated underneath or no cleft palate or anything that needs a special teat? And if the mother can't take the baby to a doctor for a check-up can you?

I would get on a website run by doctors and professionals involved in breastfeeding. They often have forums etc or you can e-mail doctors directly. A professional person with breastfeeding is called a lactation consultant. I kid you not, there are medical sites where you can get live support.

My pedi constantly advised me no straws till they'd drink from a cup by themselves. there's a solid threat of injury to their gums, mouth and throat in the event that they are no longer co-ordinated adequate to understand a cup on their very own. In an emergency I did what yet another poster did, used a straw yet basically positioned some water interior the straw, retaining my finger excessive and located the different end basically extremely into their mouth. in the event that they suck on the straw it is going to probable fly down their throat at this age. I additionally offered various dozen sippy cups by the time i ended choosing one up each and every time I had forgotten to deliver one alongside.
